More Information

With an increasing number of Americans suffering from knee-related injuries, Americans recovering from knee replacement surgeries is at al all time high [1]. An estimated 800,000 people in the United States undergo total knee replacement and 400,000 receive ACL reconstruction surgery each year [1]. Additionally, about 32.5 million US adults suffer from knee arthritis, making it one of the leading causes of chronic knee pain. [2].

Physical therapy is often the prescribed treatment for many individuals dealing with knee pain, injury, and surgery. Despite the importance of physical therapy and rehabilitation to the recovery process, current studies suggest that only 30-50% of patients adhere to their physical rehabilitation programs as prescribed by medical professionals. Immobility, fatigue, and malnutrition can expedite musclar degeneration and prolong recovery time; thus, it is vital that patients start rehabilitation early and stay consistent.

MobiliCheck's main goal is to target knee injury rehabilitation and physical therapy-related apathy by designing and developing a knee brace that quantifies range-of-motion, transmits quantitative kinematic data to physical therapists, and offers a mobile app with clinican-supported games to facilitate exercise initation. By using our brace and companion app, patients can improve their rehabilitation outcomes by measuring their knee range of motion and overcoming rehabilitation apathy.
